Description
Bald eagle landing in a tree with a fish
Each winter from November as late as February, the landlocked small sockeye salmon called kokanee gather by the thousands to spawn the die along the gravel shores of Coeur dAlene Lake, especially around Wolf Lodge Bay. For bald eagles, the kokanee spawn means a feast, and in late fall and early winter bald eagles gather in large numbers around the bay and create one of Idahos great wildlife spectacles. The numbers vary from year to year, but its not uncommon for more than 200 eagles to be counted.
